It was during the presidency of Harry S. Truman, in 1947, after the Great Depression, Pechin began to offer goods to the local community. Pechin survived 14 administrations and outlasted companies such as Kmart, Montgomery Ward, Sears and many other iconic businesses. It was written about in newspapers, featured on tv programs and radio shows. The name Pechin had life, when you said or heard Pechin, it conjured up the vision of what it had impressed upon you. Whether the name meant time with your family, savings, .10 burgers, people fighting over meat or the crick flowing below the floor, it was a place that left us with a story or memory. Pechin grew to 5 smaller stores throughout Fayette County, 3 lumber yards, 5 Vocelli Pizzas, Damico Wholesale, The Firehouse Restaurant and catering, Pechin Beer Distributor, clothing store, feed store, deli, cafeteria, variety store, golf and sports store. It has been an incredible 77 years! It was filled with hard work, much happiness and some sadness. We operated through the years to stay relevant and adjust to what we thought our community needed, despite chain stores engulfing us. We felt the need to remain, so that corporate stores had someone to keep them in check. Well, as time passes that has become more and more difficult. Even big corporations are finding it impossible, in this economy, to survive. It is with great sadness that this is where we find ourselves. The cost of goods, exorbitant taxes, utilities and regulations have made it impossible to continue. These last four years have ended a 77-year-old business, they have made no room for opportunity to survive or thrive. Take heed and look around, many places are forced to end their dreams. We want to thank everyone that has been loyal to Pechin and our family. You will never be forgotten. We pray for this world and that change, and prosperity comes for those that dream. We are very blessed to have had this for 77 years. Our memories will last a lifetime, and we hope yours do too. It has been our pleasure to serve this community. Thank you and God Bless.
